Johnny
Bush
|
Guitarist,
Singer, Songwriter ..... |
 |
| In
the eyes of his fans, Johnny Bush stands alongside
George Jones, Lefty Frizzell, and Ray Price as one of the
most soulful honky-tonk singers Texas has ever produced. The
recordings he made for the Stop and RCA labels during the
sixties and seventies rank among the most affecting country
music ever made. |
| Over
the years, Bush has also penned songs and played for some
of country music's biggest stars. The Houston Native wrote
"Whiskey River" for long-time pal Willie
Nelson; during the 1960's, he played drums with Nelson's band
and with the classic addition of Ray Price's Cherokee Cowboys
- one of the tightest outfits of any era. And yet despite
his many talents, Bush's fame rest with his reputation as
a singer's singer - a legacy confirmed by the uncompromising
fiddle-and-steel honky-tonk of his Watermelon Records debut,
Talk To My Heart. |
| According
to Bush, the thing that unites his fiercely loyal audience,
past and present, is a passion for "songs of lost love
and cheating - for country music that tells stories of the
lives people actually live." Still, as anyone who's heard
such heartrendering classics as "Undo The Right,"
"You Gave Me A Mountain," and "When My Conscience
Hurts The Most" will attest, Bush fans relate to
more than just the content of his songs. As much as anything,
it's the conviction with which Johnny Bush renders his material
that's won him the devotion of honky-tonk aficianados and
that prompted one writer to crown him the "Country
Caruso." |
