| Born
and raised inthe heart of Cajun country, Wayne Toups
grew up around the traditional sounds of cajun music. Jealous
of older brother, Roger's ability to play the accordion, Wayne
began mimicking him at the age of 13, soon surprising relatives
and friends with his quick ability to learn the beautiful
waltzes and bouncy two-steps. His earliest musical influences
were cajun accordionists Iry Lejeune, Belton Richard and
Aldus Roger. He first recorded with Camey Doucet
in the early seventies and a European release of "Wayne
Toups And The Crowley Aces" followed. Coining the
phrase 'Zydecajun' , Wayne put together a band in 1987
and released an electrifying fusion of cajun/zydeco never
before heard. A major label deal (Mercury) folowed, with the
release of three more recordings. The demand for appearances
worldwide increases and has already taken him to South
and Central America, the Far East, Europe, Canada and throughout
the U.S.. His accordion work can be heard on some of today's
hottest recordings (Mark Chestnut, Sammy Kershaw, Thomas
Dolby). He's appeared on network TV and is playing daily
on radio worldwide. His songwriting has won numerous awards
and some have appeared on major motion picture soundtracks. |
| Though
he'll soon be leaving the bayou again, fear not. It's just
the dedication and perseverance of giving unprecedented exposure
to his cajun-roots rock to mainstream audiences worldwide
and the feeling that he's on top of the world when he hears
"Ladies and Gentlemen Wayne Toups and Zydecocajun". |
